5th COMPOSITION CONTEST FOR TURKIC REPUBLICS

Association of Ankara State Conservatory is organizing the fifth composition contest in cooperation with TURKSOY Organization. The project has been shown great success for the past four years and, it is one of its kind both in Turkey and the world. The contest includes a “Composition Contest” as well as an “Instrumental Contest”. Winners of both categories will be rewarded and presented to the art community with a concert.
PURPOSE
Association of Ankara State Conservatory is organizing “Solo Violoncello accompanied with an Orchestra” themed composition contest for Turkic Republics in the hopes of making a contribution to the musical repertory.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED IN COMPOSITIONS (2018)
The composition submitted should be created for solo violoncello and orchestra (The maximum number of allowed instruments are listed on the next article).
The orchestral staff for the submitted composition should be arranged for: 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets, 2 Bassoons, 4 French Horns, 2 Trumpets, 3 Trombones, 1 Tuba, 1 Timpani, 2 Percussion and Strings. The composer may replace the second flute with a Piccolo, the second Oboe with an English Horn, the second Clarinet with a Bass Clarinet or the second Bassoons with a Double Bassoon.
The orchestral crew with the maximum number of allowed instruments are listed below:

Music players, electronic instruments and computer-assisted sounds are not allowed.
Compositions should take between 10 to 15 minutes.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Anyone can participate in the contest.
Contestants may apply with more than one composition.
Submitted compositions should not be published or played before the competition.
The composer agrees to provide the necessary details regarding the compositions’ names, their purpose and this award for the program notes and booklets, in the event that the winning compositions are played by any orchestra.
The composer for the winning composition should keep orchestra materials ready at hand.
SUBMISSION OF THE COMPOSITIONS
There will be no signatures, markings or notes regarding the identity of the composer on the scores submitted to the contest. Instead, each composition will be given a pseudonym of five letters and/or digits by the composer.
Pseudonym will be written on the submission envelope and the upper right portion of the musical score. Composers have to provide a unique pseudonym for each separate composition.
The contestants are asked to prepare an “identity envelope” for each of their compositions, with their pseudonyms and “Ankara Devlet Konservatuvarlılar Derneği” written on them. These envelopes must be the size of a standard envelope and should not have any other markings or notes than those described above. Inside this envelope, contestants must provide a profile picture, and a document that contains the contestant’s name, place and year of birth, CV, address, their IBAN, telephone and e-mail details, as well as the pseudonyms for their compositions.
In addition, the identity envelope must contain a signed and dated written contract, clearly stating that they fully agree to the terms and conditions stated in the agreement. The “identity envelope” will be sealed shut and placed in the “submission envelope”.
The envelopes that belong to the unsuccessful compositions will not be opened. Throughout the month following the announcement of the winners, contestants or their representatives will be able to retrieve these envelopes, once they provide the pseudonym and the proof of receipt that they will have received from the association. The association is not responsible for the envelopes that are not retrieved in due time.
Contestants are required to submit the musical scores for the violoncello and the  orchestra in printed media (A4 sheet size, 7 pages, printed from the digital file and bound), in digital media (as a PDF file) or as a soundtrack (as an mp4 file) to the following e-mail address for the association: adkder@gmail.com
In addition, contestants are asked to submit the musical scores for the violoncello and, the piano & violoncello parts in PDF format to adkder@gmail.com for ENGIN SANSA 3rd VILONCELLO COMPETITION
Compositions must be submitted to the association via primarily PTT, special cargo, e-mail or personally until March 10th, 2018 by 17:00. Those who submit their work personally should also send an e-mail confirming that the compositions are already submitted.
Contestants are required to pay a submission fee of 150 TL for each composition. Fees must be paid into İşbank Güvenevler branch account 4242-0356736, under the name of “Ankara Devlet Konservatuvarlılar Derneği” (IBAN: TR50 0006 4000 0014 2420 3567 36). The pseudonyms for the submitted compositions must be specified on the bank receipts as well.
Only one composition will be rewarded. The jury’s decision will not be questioned or changed.
AWARDS
The winner will be awarded 5000 TL (FIVETHOUSANDTURKISHLIRAS).
The winning composition …………. will be played by the winner of 3rd Engin Sansa International Violoncello Competition, which will be organized by the Association for the Members of the State Conservatory, Ankara on ……….. of May 2018, conducted by ……….. at the Former Conservatory in Cebeci (Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage) or another venue, on ……. of May 2018.
The name of the conductor, date and the venue will be announced via e-mail to the contestants. The award ceremony and the concert will take place on the same place.
All the contestants that submit to this competition are deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions listed above.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RESULTS
The winner will be announced on March 24th 2018 at the latest. The announcement will be made via a personal telephone call to the contestant, and on the Facebook page and the web page of the association on the same day.
There will be no awards given if the jury deems no composition worthy of the first place.
Association of Ankara State Conservatory, Ankara administrative committee reserves the right to make alterations on this agreement.
